Toyota Ventures

Toyota Ventures, the early-stage venture capital arm of Toyota, is on a mission to explore what’s next by helping early-stage startups bring disruptive technologies and business models to market quickly. The firm invests in  frontier technologies in areas such as artificial intelligence, autonomy, mobility, robotics, cloud technology, smart cities, digital health, fintech, and materials. They also invest in climate technologies offering scalable solutions for carbon neutrality.

In April 2023, Toyota Ventures participated in a $40 million Series A funding round for Avalanche Energy, a Seattle-based startup developing modular fusion micro-reactors.

"Fusion has the potential to provide an enormous supply of power to electrify the Earth with no CO2 or other harmful emissions and it has been an elusive goal in the quest for clean power," said Lisa Coca, Climate Fund partner at Toyota Ventures. "Avalanche's innovative micro-fusion reactor has the potential to be stacked for endless power applications, and what excites us most is the fact that the form factor enables an agile approach with rapid design turns. We are proud to support Avalanche's very capable team on their mission to tap the full potential of nuclear fusion to help decarbonize the planet."
